Situated in both Ellis and Johnson counties, the charming small town of Venus, Texas, is home to approximately 3,000 residents. Originally called Gossip, the town was renamed Venus in the late 1880’s, named after a local doctor’s daughter. Venus was a prosperous town sitting at the junction of two railroads and for a time was one of Johnson County’s fastest growing communities. The Great Depression hit the area hard, however by the late 1940’s Venus had already began to recover. Growth throughout the 20th century was slow but steady and eventually Venus spread into Ellis County. Due to the expansion of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, the population of Venus tripled between 2000 and 2010.
Venus is composed of 3 square miles, all of which are land. Residents of Venus enjoy easy access to major thoroughfares including U.S. Route 67 which runs through the town just north of its center. Venus is only thirty-one miles from Dallas to the northeast and Fort Worth to the northwest. Major highways and close proximity to larger cities afford Venus residents a quiet small town life with quick and convenient access to the region’s best shopping, dining, entertainment and recreation. This family-friendly community is served by the Venus Independent School District, except a small portion situated in Ellis County which is served by the Maypearl Independent School District or Midlothian Independent School District.
